Our Culinary Commitment

A sushi restaurant specializing in ayu kaiseki using wild ayu caught in the Kii River system. The signature product is salt-grilled wild ayu, and the flagship dish is grilled ayu sansho sushi. At lunchtime we also serve the popular ayu with vegetable ankake and other course dishes. Seasonal limited whole young ayu sushi is also available. Please contact us for celebratory events, memorial services, various hot pot dishes, and other inquiries.

Restaurant Atmosphere

A three-story wooden building rebuilt in 1939, it is a calm space with a sense of history and elegance. The spacious tatami room seating area overlooks a cliff-like mountain garden, allowing diners to enjoy the beauty of nature as they dine.

Our History

The oldest existing sushi restaurant in Japan, boasting a tradition of about 800 years. The building was rebuilt in 1939 (Showa 14) after a great fire. The shop was the setting for the "Sushi-ya no Dan" (Sushi Shop scene) of Yoshitsune Senbonzakura, one of the three great masterpieces of bunraku and kabuki. In the Showa period it was visited by literary figures and, as a celebrated establishment, continues to preserve Yoshino's food culture.

50th head of the household Takuda Taro

I was born in 1979. As the eldest son, I studied Japanese cuisine in Kyoto to inherit the family business, and from 2026 I took over management and the kitchen. Considering Yasuke's history and the culture of Nara, I work daily, unafraid of change, so that customers can feel and taste the atmosphere of Oku Yamato and so it can be passed down to the next generation.
